Zelma Clara Nobis was born in Catlettsburg, Kentucky on July 21, 1927 to George and Elva Hurtz. Zelma grew up and attended high school in Catlettsburg. After high school she became a telephone operator. Zelma moved to Chicago, where she met the love of her life, Edward Nobis. They were united in marriage on October 10, 1959 and the couple later moved to Rockford, Illinois, where their only son, Gary was born in 1965. Zelma worked for Lloyd Hearing Aid Company until she retired in 2006. After retirement, Zelma and Ed moved to Sioux City during October of 2007 to be near their grandchildren. They attended Heritage Baptist Church.
Zelma was a wonderful wife, mother and grandma. She will be missed, her family is so thankful she trusted Christ as her personal Savior and is now enjoying her eternal home. Zelma enjoyed playing the keyboard and studying the Bible.
Zelma is survived by her son, Gary Nobis and his wife Rhonda, 8 grandchildren, Jason and his wife Allison, Bethany, Jeremy, Joel, Becca, Brooklyn, Josiah, and Breanna Nobis, her brothers Tom and Bill Hurtz, sisters Jewel Ross, Elizabeth Woods, Linda Barker, and Debbie Brown.
Zelma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers.
