Wilma Lucille Thompson, 77, of Sioux City, passed on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at home surrounded by her family. Private family only graveside service will be at Graceland Cemetery on June 30, 2020. The family asks that all memorials be directed to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or the Siouxland Center for Active Generations.
Wilma Lucille Martin was born on July 30, 1942 in Cut Bank, Montana to Charles W. Martin and Lucille C. Martin. Wilma and her sister Thelma were raised by their father Charles in Minot, North Dakota.
After graduating from Minot High in 1960, she told a girlfriend that she was going to go on a date with Gary Thompson to see the Ten Commandments; she then had to “hint” to Gary to get him to ask her out. Wilma and Gary were married March 22, 1963. Gary and Wilma lived in Minot until the summer of 1969 when they moved to Sioux City for Gary’s new job, a route driver for Metz Baking. Wilma was a stay at home mother until the kids went to school. She was very active in her children’s lives from PTA, coaching T-ball, leading Boy Scouts and being one of the neighborhood moms.
Wilma was a long time active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and being a Youth Leader when her children were young. More recently, she enjoyed quilting, bible study and “The Sunday Breakfast Crew”. Wilma was a member of the Siouxland Center for Active Generations and particularly enjoyed playing cards and painting class. She has shared several over the years and always made one of her paintings into her Christmas card each year. She worked for a variety of car dealerships over the years and retired from Condon Auto in May of 2007.
Wilma is survived by her two children, Scott (Renee) Thompson, of Cedar Rapids; Shelley (Chad) Krebs of Hawarden ; her grandchildren, Keegan, Kayla and Kyle Thompson; Sean (Jackie) Krebs, Brandon (Tina) Krebs, great-grandchildren, Jake and Wesley Krebs, two sisters-in law, Vonnie (Vern) Thraen, Mar Vore and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gary Thompson; parents, Charles and Lucille Martin; sister, Thelma Howling Wolf; mother-in-law, Myrtle Hunter; father-in-law, Claude Hunter; brothers-in –law, Wayde Thompson, Jim Thompson and Lonnie Vore; sister-in-law, Mary Thompson.
