Obituary

William “Billy” Odinas, 38 of Hastings, Nebraska passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022 at a hospital in Englewood, Colorado. Services will be held 11:00am April 23, 2022 at the Remnant Fellowship of Iowa, 634 Willow Ave, Council Bluffs, Iowa 51501. Luncheon to follow service.

William (Billy) Joseph Odinas, son of Walter and Pamela Hawkins Odinas, was born on March 24, 1983 in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended St. Margaret Mary Church, was a student at their parochial school, and attended Creighton Prep. He was a 2001 graduate of Burke High School in Omaha.

Billy met Courtney Wright during the summer of 2016 at a snow cone stand, being introduced by a mutual friend. Billy gave Courtney his phone number, but not his name, so Courtney saved his phone number under “Corvette guy”. They messaged each other, shared a few phone calls, and 6 months later had their first date. When Billy proposed, he pulled the engagement ring out of his boot, and asked her to marry him. She was the one true love of his life. On September 11, 2021, Courtney and Billy married at Remnant Fellowship of Iowa in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Having their union blessed by God was important to both of them.

Billy loved being a dad to their daughter Ava. When she was an infant, he held her as much as he could, fed her, changed diapers and gave her baths. She used to squeal when he arrived home from work, and greeted him with her biggest smile. As she got older, he would play Barbie’s with her, read to her, and take her on small carpet jobs with him. She would hand him tools and “push” the carpet roll with him to help roll out the carpet. Their biggest adventure was going 4-wheeling at the park and setting off fireworks. He was her best friend.

Billy’s passion, (besides his family and friends) was anything with a motor; dirt bikes, motorcycles, cars and trucks. As a young child, he could usually be found by his father’s side, working on cars and trucks with him, handing him tools, traveling to auto auctions and absorbing everything he could about the fascinating world of automobiles.  He loved working on them, fine-tuning them, and buying and selling them. He made a profitable part-time business out of this passion.

At a young age, Billy’s Uncle Eric introduced him to dirt bikes and motocross. Billy was an avid racer with more than a little bit of daredevil in him. Billy’s Uncle Scott also spent a lot of time with him throughout his life, introducing him to classic cars as well as serving as a mentor.

While growing up, Billy accompanied his father on many carpet jobs. His Dad taught him the trade, and Billy went on to learn how to install all types of flooring, starting his own successful flooring business in Hastings, Nebraska.

Billy was a devoted son to his mother, frequently checking to make sure she had everything she needed, fixing her car when the need arose, and spending time with her.

Sisters Annie, Christina and Katie always had Billy’s back, as he did theirs. In spite of being busy with his flooring business, anything automotive, and then with his new family, Billy always made time for his sisters. They were siblings, but also friends, and there wasn’t anything Billy wouldn’t do for them. He would drop everything he was doing if one of them needed something.

Billy was fortunate to have all 4 of his grandparents figure centrally in his life, spending time with him, traveling together, and giving and receiving much love. Passing before him was William Hawkins and Walter Sr. and Joan Odinas.

In the organization Overcomer’s in Christ, Billy was a much respected mentor to other members.

Billy passed away peacefully on March 5, 2022 at Swedish Hospital in Englewood, Colorado from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident in which he was a passenger. At the time of his death, he was lovingly surrounded by family and friends.

Left to mourn Billy, and grateful for time spent with him, are his wife, Courtney Wright and daughter Ava Odinas of Hastings, mother, Pamela Hawkins Odinas, Omaha, father and step-mother, Walter and Shirley Odinas, Las Vegas, sisters, Annie (Scott) McNew, Calhoun, Christina (Travis) Feldhacker and Katie Odinas, and grandmother Mrs. Patricia Hawkins, all of Omaha, many aunts, uncles, cousins, one nephew, and a multitude of friends.
