Bill Cunningham passed away on July 1st, 2026, one week shy of his 87th birthday. Bill was born on July 7, 1939, in Sioux City. He graduated from Immaculate Conception elementary School and Bishop Heelan High School. Bill was a Track Star who won first place in State in the 100-yard dash, 1958.
Funeral services for Bill are pending. Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City is assisting the family.
Bill moved to Chicago and worked for American Airlines. It was from there that Bill was drafted into the Army and served in Germany. He then returned to his job at American Airlines. On returning to Sioux City Bill enjoyed reconnecting with family and old friends. Bill enjoyed daily walking about in the Morningside mall. He used his time at the mall to meet and talk to his new friends.
Bill always was generous at helping members of his family who were in need. When his sister Marge needed help due to her work schedule to take care of her four young children, Bill was right there too generously to offer loving care and a helping hand. Bill had a very pleasant and upbeat personality. Plus, he was gifted with a great sense of humor. Because of these two characteristics he was always popular and well liked in whatever environment he was in. The employees of the nursing home who cared for him were saddened at his passing and said that they would miss him and his fun-loving personality.
Survivors include three brothers: James, John, and Fr. Michael Cunningham; four sisters: Patricia Cunningham, Diane Dimsey, Karen Romo, and Margaret White; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ann Cunningham; two sisters: JoAnn Miller and Mary Cunningham and two brothers Raymond Richard “Dick” and Jerry Cunningham.
