William “Bill” Alan Trotter, 79, of Sioux City, IA, passed away at Mercy One from heart failure April 18, 2025. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation 1 hour prior at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Bill was born in Sioux City, Iowa, to William Trotter and Darline (Blue) Trotter, March 2, 1946. He married Nancy Denning, they had three sons, Willie, Scott and Jamee. In the early years he was a member of the Van Club, and won first prize for his customized van, called the Wanderer. He loved to travel the country and had many loves in his life. He was a generous man and helped his family and friends when he could. He had a big heart, and he loved his family, the pictures he valued so much are a testament to that. They kept his memories alive. He loved life, no matter what obstacles he had to overcome.
He worked at Gerkin’s Windows; had booths at County Fairs selling t-shirts and merchandise, traveling the United States; later he sold his inventory from booths at the Flea Market in So Sioux City, as well as on street corners and flea markets. He worked at Gateway Computers for about 10 years, until they closed. He then worked at Walmart until his retirement in 2019.
Bill reconnected with Dianne in 2001, who he had met in 1968. They made a life together for the past 24 years. They went on many trips around the country, including Elvis Presley’s Graceland, in Memphis; Nashville; Wisconsin Dells; House on the Rocks in Wisconsin; Pikes Peak in Colorado; the Black Hills; Branson, Mo. and many other road trips in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and Minnesota. He loved to travel and going to car shows around the area. He was a huge John Wayne fan and went to Winterset, Iowa, visiting the John Wayne Museum and home. He loved watching TV and movies, especially John Wayne westerns as well as action movies with Dolph Lundgren and many others.
Survivors include his significant other, Dianne McCall of Sioux City; daughter, Kate Charles (John) of Kalispell, Mt; sister-in-law, Patsy Clemmons of Des Moines; sons: Willie Trotter of Sioux City; Robbie Dripps (Holly) of Cedar Rapids; and Ted Schafer-Ortner (Don) of Holstein, Ia;14 Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his mother, Darline (Blue) Clemmons; stepfather, Bill Clemmons; biological father, William Trotter; brother, Dana Clemmons; 2 Sisters, Sherry Hockom and Patty Trudell; 2 Sons, Jamee Trotter and Scott Trotter and several nephews.
