Wilbur (Willie) Joseph Mahacek, age 30, of North Sioux City, South Dakota passed away on Wednesday January 9, 2013 at a Sioux City hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am Monday January 14, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert J. Schimmer officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3-8pm at the church with the family present from 6-8pm. The Rosary will be recited at 4:00pm by the Catholic Daughters and a Vigil service held at 7:00pm. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Willie will carried by his Angels from the North Sioux City Firefighters for one last time at the cemetery. Willie was born in Sioux City, Iowa on June 30, 1982, the son of Larry L. and Cheryl Annie (Calhoon) Mahacek. He attended Dakota Valley Schools graduating with the class of 2001.
In his childhood he was a proud member of the Boy Scouts of America. Willie also received 8 belts practicing Taekwondo. He was a huge fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Chicago Cubs and the Dallas Cowboys.
Willie was a young man who had a contagious personality. He enjoyed playing board games, amd spending time on the computer. He was a continuous prankster, who enjoyed messing with people’s heads, and really enjoyed giving his friend Dan a hard time. He cherished the time he could spend with his three nephews.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Willie will be missed by his family which includes his parents: Larry and Annie of North Sioux City, S.D. his sisters: Ann La Fleur and her husband Larry of Sioux City, and Cindy Koster and her significant other Tim Gard of Sioux City, and his three cherished Nephews: Chris, Nick, and Kiefer, along with several aunts uncles and cousins. The family also wishes to acknowledge his friends Dan and Laura Fuxa, Blake Markve, Brittany Previal, and Tim Steele.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
The family requests that memorials in Willie’s name be made to the North Sioux City Firefighters.
