Wesley W. Woods, Sr., "Woody," 82, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2017 at his residence. Services will be held 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. A visitation will be held from one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery.
Wesley was born on November 13, 1934 in Winnetoon, Nebraska, the son of Dallas and Hattie Woods. Wesley joined the United States Army and upon being Honorably discharged, he met Evelyn Graae, and three years later, they got married on January 27, 1958 in Nebraska. Together, they had eight children.
Wesley worked for Wheelchair Transportation Service in Sioux City for twenty years. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family, and Wesley loved music. He played in a band that would volunteer their time and play in senior centers, nursing homes, or anywhere that would ask. Wesley could play the guitar, piano, accordion, and harmonica, along with many other instruments.
Wesley was a great father, and an even better grandfather. He was a humble man that was never the center of attention. However, his tolerant and candid personality never concealed his caring heart. Wesley was a hard worker and epitomized the ideal family man. He had a great sense of humor; most conversations were filled with laugher and sarcasm. What you saw was what you got, there were no secrets with Wesley. He was extremely dependable and supportive. Wesley was a man of character; he truly was a cape away from being a superhero.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; children, Theresa Hahn of North Sioux City, Russell (Sheri) Woods, Sr., Randall (Starla) Woods, Sr., Wesley (Lori) Woods, Jr., James Woods, all of Sioux City, and Melissa (Victor) Ramirez of Sloan; brother, Danny (Joan) Woods of Omaha; sister, Darlene (Larry) Macke of Creighton, NE and Lois Patres of Plainview, NE; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Wesley was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kevin Woods; and daughter, Robin Leon.
