Wendell D. Saxen, 82 of Sioux City, passed away, Saturday, October 4, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Visitation 1 hour prior to service time. Burial will be in Sunset View Cemetery, Washta, Iowa.
Wendell was born on January 12, 1943, in Holstein, IA to Henry and Anna (Gehrke) Saxen. He graduated from Correctionville high school in 1961 and enlisted into the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany. He was married to Linda Irwin, they later divorced. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 18 years before he retired in July of 2005. Wendell was a member of the Grief and Growth Group and the American Legion Post 0291. He had a passion for automobiles and that he owned and worked on antique vehicles his whole life.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Blake (Brenda) Saxen; daughter, Marie Saxen; brother, Danny (Bonnie) Saxen; grandchildren: Vanessa (Darren) Davies, Tony Saxen, Cassie Rupp, Shane Saxen, Sami Saxen, Timothy (Katie) Felts, Justin Hayworth (Kiersten Hayes) and Nick Hayworth (Makenzie Treirweiler); and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son Lanny; 7 brothers: Edmund, Robert, Henry Jr., Lawrence, Raymond, Franklin, and Harold; and a sister, Lillian Nairn.
