Vivian E. Johnston, 86, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, December 9, 2016 at Countryside Nursing Home. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Vivian was born on Decemeber 21, 1929 in Bronson, IA, the daughter of Oscar Lloyd and Opal (Brownmiller) Varner. She graduated from Washta, IA high school in 1947. On January 24, 1948, in Correctionville, IA, she married Lester Johnston, who lived across the alley from her sister in Sioux City. For a number of years she was on a bowling league. Vivian was also a member of T.O.P.S. and St. James Methodist Church in Sioux City.
Survivors include her sons, Lyle (Paulette) of Jackson, MO, Raymond (Linda) of Sioux City, Gaylan (Ann) of Salix; daughters, Karen (Norman) Stanislav of Blencoe, IA; brothers, Dale, Gerald, Randy, Donald, and Steve Varner, and Russell, Daryl Duncanson; sisters, Rita Heusinkveld, Rita Richter, Margie Edwards; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, and one stepbrother, Thomas.
