Vitali Zhylka, 21 of Sergeant Bluff, died Saturday, July 30, 2016 from injuries in an automobile accident near Cherokee.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 900 6th Street in Sioux City, with Rev. Lucas Rice officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Orthodox Cemetery in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 pm Wednesday, at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, with a Trisagion service at 7:30 pm.
Vitali was born on April 5, 1995 in Minsk, Belarus, the son of Vladimir and Alena (Pauliushchyk) Zhylka.
During 2001, the family moved to the United States. Vitali graduated in 2013 from the Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School. Vitali was currently enrolled at Western Iowa Tech Community College studying nursing.
Vitali previously worked at Fastenal and later at Unity Point-St. Lukes. He was currently employed at Earl Miller Construction, Inc.
Vitali was a member of the Siouxland Youth Hockey Association. He played hockey for many years and most recently, volunteered to help coach the younger players.
Vitali has been a volunteer member of the Sergeant Bluff Fire Department for over 4 years.
Vitali is survived by his parents, Vladimir and Alena Zhylka, his sister, Katrina Zhylka, all of Sergeant Bluff; his maternal grandparents, Viktar and Liudmila Pauliushchyk, and his paternal grandmother, Valentina Zhylka of Belarus; and his aunt, Maryna and her husband, Donald Smith and their children, Nathan and Viktoria, all of Salix.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Vladimir A. Zhylka.
