Virginia L. West, 79 of Danbury, died Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.


Funeral service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff, 400 4th Street, with Rev. Gene Stockton officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Sloan Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, January 20, 2017 at 4-8pm with Family present from 6-8pm and a prayer service at 7pm at the funeral home in Sergeant Bluff.


Virginia was born on April 5, 1937 in Sergeant Bluff, the daughter of Ferdinand and Vona (Rogers) Claussen. In 1955, she graduated from the Sergeant Bluff High School. On August 17, 1956, she was united in marriage to Rine H. West at the Sioux City Air Base Chapel.


During the late 1960’s Virginia worked at Pioneer Bank, the in the early 1970’s started working for the Westwood Community Schools until her retirement.


Virginia is survived by her sons Robert (Judy) West of Solon, Iowa and Steve West of Akron; her daughter Pam (Romain) Hicks of Danbury; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rine in 2013, her sister Ruby Morey and brothers Kenneth Hodges and Richard Hodges.
