Vicenta "Vita" Hummel, 69 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2020. Funeral Service will be held 4:00pm Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave.

Vicenta Socrates was born May 11, 1951 in Puerto Princesa, Philippines. She was raised there by her mother and father. Her father passed away when Vita was young due to complications with diabetes.  She met and married Gary Hummel in 1974  and came to the United States in 1975. To this union a daughter, April, was born. After they divorced, Vita raised April by herself. She was proud of the fact that she was able to work and provide for her daughter without assistance from outside sources.

Vita worked in the packing house as well as in dietary at St. Luke's Hospital. She left Tyson when she hurt her back. Vita spent 15 years fighting her health. She fought breast cancer and won, She struggled with congestive heart failure and kidney failure, but did her best to stay strong for her daughter and grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

Vita had a heart of gold and loved spending with family and friends. She always had food available and ready when others would stop by.

Vita will be missed by many but especially her daughter, April; and her grandchildren Aleya (Lea), Davarian (DayDay), Armani (Mani Poo) and Anniston (Annie May).

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a sister, and a special friend Terry Abraham.
