Verna M. Hayden, 72 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be held 11:00am Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Wednesday, October 6, at the funeral home.

Verna was born on February 23, 1949 at St. Vincent Hospital in Sioux City to parents of Homer and Gene Brown.  Verna grew up on a farm in Lawton-Bronson where she graduated High School in 1968. Verna married in 1969 and had two sons, Clint and Casey.  Verna married again when she met the love of her life in 1994 to Fred Hayden who had two sons, Gary and Tim. Verna provided a wonderful and loving home for her sons and grandkids.

Verna was hard working and driven which led to her favorite job in the marketing department at Gateway. Verna attended Western Iowa Tech after Gateway where she graduated with honors with an Accounting Degree at the ripe young age of 59. Verna retired at the age of 70 and devoted all of her time to her family.

Verna enjoyed spending time with all of her family and all of her family loved her very much. Verna was an excellent softball player and loved to coach all kids including her sons and grandkids.  Verna was an elite cribbage player and a gracious winner. Verna loved spending time at her vacation home in Okoboji, IA. where she was a great host and spoiled the grandkids.

Verna is survived by her two sons; Clint (Tonya) McKewon and Casey (Nicky) McKewon, grandkids;  Nathan (Kim) McKewon, Nicole (Brian) Thomas;  Christian, Connor, Quinn McKewon, great grandchild;  Kaia Thomas, stepsons; Gary and Tim Hayden, and good friends, Doug and Michelle Morgan.
