Obituary

Verena T (Gastro) Taylor, age 89, of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday February 12, 2014 at a local hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday February 17, 2014 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City with Father Michael Erpelding officiating. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery at Coleridge, Nebraska. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Verena was born in Crofton, Nebraska on November 27, 1924, the daughter of Frank and Ida (Evding) Frigge. She attended and graduated from Crofton schools. Following her graduation, the family moved to South Sioux City, Nebraska. She worked in many capacities during her lifetime ending her working career in 2007 as a senior companion. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church for many years and was a former member of the Rosary society.

She loved her family, and was especially fond of her grandchildren, whom she adored. She was always there for all of them. She loved to garden, care for her flowers, and take wonderful care of her pets.

Verena is survived by her two sons: Larry Gastro and wife Carol of Sioux City, Dwaine Gastro and wife Marjean of Sioux City, daughter-in-laws: Joyce and Kathy Gastro both of Sioux City, a brother David Frigge and wife Verna of Sioux City, two sisters: Sylvia Bolder of California and Florence Kelin of Wyoming, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two special nieces Valerie Shultz and Kathy Wiska.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands: Walter Gastro, and Leon Taylor, three sons: Patrick, Anthony, and Danny, two sisters: Mary Ann Derby, and Rose Jean Frigge, and two brothers: Roman Firgge, and Clarence Frigge.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church.
