Vera P. Foley, 88 of Sioux City, died Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City.
Funeral Mass will be held 10 am Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Cathedral of the Epiphany with Rev. Patrick Behm officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation 4-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home, with a Rosary at 6 pm and the Prayer Service at 7 pm. The family will be present from 6-8 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.
Vera was born on September 25, 1924 in Randolph, Nebraska, the daughter of Lawrence and Minnie (Wilson) Barrett. She graduated from Waterbury High School in Waterbury, Nebraska.
Vera married Louis Jones and with Louis in the military, they moved to Riverside, California. They moved back to this area after the war. Louis died from injuries at work in 1949. In 1961, Vera married Samuel Abramo. He died in 1965. She then married Thomas “Mike” Foley in 1966. He died in 1998.
Vera loved listening to music and going to dances. She also was very fond of Bingo! Her family was her life, especially her grandchildren.
Vera was a long time member of St. Boniface, and a recent member of the Cathedral of the Epiphany.
Vera is survived by her four sons, Larry Jones and his wife Jeanne, Mike Abramo, Frank Abramo and Joe Abramo, all of Sioux City, her daughter, Theresa (Jones) and her husband Paul DeLange of Algona, Iowa; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, two sisters, Vanetta Elgert and Dorothy Elgert and two brothers, Elmer Barrett and Howard Barrett.
