Obituary

Tylene Gloria (Kosters) Zevenbergen, 82, of Sioux City, IA went to be with the Lord while surrounded by family on February 5, 2024 at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City.  There will be a funeral service on Friday, February 9th, at 10:30am, at Peace Reformed Church of Sioux City with Pastor Jason Van Wyk officiating.  Visitation with the family will occur at the church for the hour immediately before the service with a luncheon following.  Interment will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Tylene was born at home on December 17, 1941 in rural Hull, IA, the first of four children born to William and Sadie (Rikkers) Kosters.  She grew up in Orange City and graduated from M-OC High School as the Salutatorian of her class of 1960.  During her later years of high school she caught the eye of a neighbor boy who became the love of her life.  She married Allen Zevenbergen on her birthday, December 17,1960 so they could move together to his first teaching job in SW Iowa.  They were blessed to be married for over 63 years.

Each time there would be a new teaching opportunity they would go through a move, four times adding a new baby to the family.  Riverton; Graettinger (Debra); Sutherland (Michelle); Sioux Center (Brad); back to Graettinger (Kathie); Lake Park; Anthon; and finally to Sioux City after Allen’s retirement.  Later they moved to The Pointe at Sunrise Retirement Community.

Tylene was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She devoted her life to taking care of those around her.  In each of the communities, she supported Allen and the school’s vocal music programs.  She was also involved in the churches they attended and sang in the choirs.  She loved seeing her grandkids and later her great-grands and she always had some goodies to feed friends and family when they stopped for a visit.

Tylene is survived by her husband, Allen, of 63 years; four children, Debra (Ray) Lynn, Alton, IA; Michelle (Charlie) Nelson, Le Mars, IA; Brad (Zanniell) Zevenbergen, North Sioux City, SD; and Kathie (Mike) Trover, Jefferson, SD; 13 grandchildren, Stephen (Alison) Lynn, La Vista, NE; Rachel (Matt) Honken, Orange City, IA; Jason (Jennifer) Lynn, Springfield, NE; Cayla (Robbie) Walsh, Le Mars, IA; Mindi (Mitch) Schultze, Le Mars, IA; Michael (Marissa) Nelson, Le Mars, IA; Heaven Gaskins and Wes Euchner, Holstein, IA; Zed (Ryli) Zevenbergen, Vermillion, SD; Zariah Zevenbergen, Sioux Falls, SD; Abiah Zevenbergen, Sioux Falls, SD; Jordan Trover, Jefferson, SD, Kaci Trover, Jefferson, SD; and Alexa Trover, Jefferson, SD; 16 + 1 on the way great-grandchildren, Lucy and Benny Lynn; Iris and Asa Honken; Bella and baby brother Lynn;  Ava, Hunter, Parker and Carter Walsh; Tavion, Lakin, and Mason Schultze; Logan and Karlie Nelson; Nevaeh and Coleson Gaskins; two sisters, Shirley (Alton) Harrell, Omaha, NE; LaVonne (Peter) Hoekstra, Sioux Center, IA; and sister-in-law Lila Kosters, Orange City, IA.
