Tomi West, 91, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016 at a local hospital. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Tomi was born on May 27, 1925 in Japan, the daughter of Sumitaka and Hida (Maga) Orita.
Tomi met Raymond Martin West while he was in the military doing a tour in Japan. They were married on February 19, 1960. Together they moved to the United States in 1963.
Tomi worked for Jarvis Candy and Palmer Candy. She enjoyed planting flowers, knitting, crocheting, and holding on to her Japanese heritage by cooking traditional foods. Tomi was a Buddhist, and she was devoted to her faith throughout her life.
Survivors include her daughter, Kim McNear; son, Ray West, both of Sioux City; two sisters; five grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and special friends, Roger and Kim McEntaffer.
Tomi was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four siblings.
