Thomas A. "Tom" Stevens, 76, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Sunrise Care Center.
Services will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Waterbury Funeral Service, 4125 Orleans Ave., Sioux City. A visitation will be held from 4-7 with family present from 5-7 on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hansen Cemetery in Irene, South Dakota.
Tom was born on October 15, 1939 in Vermillion, SD, the son of Anthony and Violet (Peterson) Stevens. He attended school in South Sioux City, Nebraska and Sioux City, Iowa. Tom married Gertrude Williams on August 22, 1986 in Elk Point, South Dakota.
Tom was an iron worker for most of his life, working on the Port Neal Power Plants and Anderson Dance Pavilion, to name a few in the area. He also worked under water on the Astoria-Megler Bridge over the Columbia River in Astoria, Oregon. Later in life, he drove for Wheel Chair Services here in Sioux City.
Tom was a member of the Church Of All Nations. He enjoyed gardening, (where he raised the best tomatoes ever!), he was an excellent cook, and loved being in the kitchen. He and his wife spent many years going fishing and camping. Tom remodeled a school bus into a retro RV and traveled to many places. He was very proud to have been from the South Bottoms, here in Sioux City and was a member of the South Bottoms reunion committee. Tom was the chair and co-chair for the Sioux City MS walks for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Gert of Sioux City; sons Jason, Bart, and Sam Stevens all of Texas; Kelly Johnson of Florida and Randy (Vicky) Williams of Sioux City; daughter Brenda Baker of Georgia; sister Karen Spray of Sioux City; grandchildren Wendy LaCroix, Ashley Allen, Lacey Williams, Amanda Baker, and Jesse Williams; great grandchildren Lorelai and Maggie Sorenson, and Eden and Ivy Nash; his dog Rusty; and numerous cousins.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his aunt Pearl Walz, and several cousins.
