Thomas “Tom” S. Winge, 63 of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Friday, January 14, 2022 at a local care facility, surrounded by his family. Services will be held 7:00pm Tuesday, January 25, 2022 with family present at 6:30pm at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave.

Tom was born July 5, 1958 in Minneapolis, MN. to his adoptive parents Keith and Bernice (Bodtker) Winge. He was raised in Sauk Rapids, MN, then  moved to Elk Point, SD, where Tom joined the United States Army in 1977.  While serving he married Brenda Turner, and to this union two children were born, Krissa and Daniel. Tom served seven years in the Army with the 101 ^st airborne crew based in Alaska, where his love of aviation was born.

Once Tom was honorable discharged from the Army he met and married Lori Huggenberger in 1984. In 1987 they moved to Council Bluff, IA where he earned his aviation maintenance degree. Tom helped launch the Omaha Police Department Helicopter Operation. Tom was blessed once again with a daughter, Paige. Tom and Paige shared a special bond and mutual love of animals.

As Tom’s muscular dystrophy progressed, he retired from the aviation world and spent his days caring for his pets, making crafts and enjoying visits from his family and face timing Olivia aka “short round”. He also enjoyed his frequent late night calls from his special girl, Paige. Tom would cruise around the nursing home and neighborhood in his power chair enjoying the outdoors as much as possible. He loved sharing a nightly bonfire and Army stories with Loren, a veteran as well.

He is survived by his children, Daniel Winge, Krissa Howell, Paige Winge, former daughter-in-law, Robyn Winge, 10 grandchildren, Trey, Devon, Kacey, Trenton, Thomas, Olivia (short round), Kattie, Brady, Christopher, Jesse.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, James, Paul.
