Obituary

Thomas "Tom" J. Olhausen, 72, of Sioux City, IA, passed away surrounded by his family on December 22, 2024.  A memorial service will be held Friday, December 27, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., with a visitation 1 hour prior at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Thomas James Olhausen was born on April 4, 1952, in Primghar, IA to Marvin and Herberta Olhausen. He spent his youth in the Hartley area and spent the remainder of his life chasing adventures. After high school, Tom enlisted in the Navy and spent a short time in California before being honorably discharged due to a health condition.

On June 2, 1973, Tom was united in marriage to Sheryl Muhs in Hartley, IA. Two children were born to this union: Daniel and Michael. Tom and his family’s adventures took them to Colorado for several years and then on to Texas and eventually back home to Iowa. Tom and Sheryl divorced in 1996 after 23 years of marriage.

In 2009 Tom met and married Renee Peterson who stood by Tom until the very end. Tom was a lifelong fan of the Denver Broncos, Iowa Hawkeyes, an avid Nascar fan, unapologetic Trump supporter, and a loving son, father, brother, and grandfather. Tom most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and was their biggest fan.  On Sunday, December 22, surrounded by family, Tom began his final adventure, passing from this life at the age of 72.

Those left to hold his memory close at heart are his wife Renee Olhausen of Sioux City, IA; his children: Dan (April) Olhausen of Tontitown, AR, Mike (Nicole) Olhausen of Sioux City, IA; grandsons: Dylan, Carter, Ethan, JayVeon, and Phoenix; granddaughters: Chloe, Emily, and Phoebe; sisters: Jeri (special friend Kathy Mongan) and Joanne (special friend Veretta Schuyler); step-children: Nikkele (special friend Jeff Ryan), Adam (Raynee), Phillip, and Ryan Peterson along with other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Marvin and Herberta Olhausen; stepmother: Jeanne Olhausen.
