Obituary

Theodosia E. “Theo” Belvin, 84, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa died Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Embassy Rehab in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.


Memorial services will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Memorial Garden, Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Augusta, Georgia. Waterbury Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.


Theodosia was born April 18, 1932, in Augusta, Georgia, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Bowick) MacMurphy. She grew up in Augusta, graduating from Tubman High School. She continued her education at Newberry College in Newberry, SC.


Theo was married in 1955 to Ernest Belvin. Over the years Theo worked as a math teacher in Florence, Alabama and Union City, Georgia. In her later years, she worked as a substitute teacher at Westwood High School, in Sloan, Iowa from 2005 to 2010. She moved to Sergeant Bluff in 2012 from Atlanta.


Theo’s home church was Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church in Riverdale, Georgia, she attended Skein Lutheran Church, in Sloan, Iowa when she visited. She enjoyed playing bridge and also attending all of her grandchildren’s school functions.


Theo is survived by her two sons Daniel (Kathy) Belvin of Sloan and their children Katie (Tyler) Wells and Abby Belvin; John Belvin Sr. of Georgia and his children Alicia Belvin and John Belvin II.; her daughter, Dianne Belvin Hart of Georgia and her children Brittany (Andrew) Yaeger and Haley (Sean) Lawson; 3 great grandchildren, Pace Hanback, Shaelyn Flores and Emerson Yaeger; and her sister in-law, Phylliss MacMurphy of North Carolina.


She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles MacMurphy.
