Stuart Edwin McCord, Jr., 67, of Lawton, Iowa, passed away Monday, November 13, 2017 at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. A visitation will be held 4-7pm on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery at a later date.
The family requests all attending services to dress wearing their favorite sport teams apparel. Stuart would prefer that no one wear Nebraska colors.
Stuart was born on April 5, 1950 in Des Moines, Iowa to Stuart and Patricia (Sherman) McCord. He grew up in Maxwell, Iowa, graduating high school in 1968. Following high school, Stuart attended Westmar College in LeMars, graduating with a teaching degree in 1972. High school sweethearts, Stuart married Beth Zeiser 1973.
Stuart taught at Lawton Bronson Schools for 33 years, retiring in 2005. Throughout the years, he taught junior high Social Studies and World Geography and high school World History. Stuart coached junior high track, football, and basketball and high school baseball. In addition to coaching, he refereed football and basketball. Stuart ran the scoreboard at the Sioux City Explorer's games for many years. Sports have always been a big part of his life, he has a huge collection of baseball cards and he was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, New York Yankees, and Chicago Bears.
Survivors include his wife, Beth; children, Joseph McCord of Lawton, and Callie (Daymond Pederson) McCord and their daughter, Haylee of Sioux City; and brother, Michael (Julie) McCord of Ankeny, Iowa.
Stuart was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gordon; and two infant brothers.
