Steven Phillip Hanner, 71, of Sioux City, IA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at a local long term care facility following a long battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held 11:00am Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held one prior to the service at the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided United States Marines, American Legion Post 64, and Siouxland Detachment of the Marine Corps. League 507.
Born on May 31, 1953, to Phillip and Ethel (Johnson) Hanner in Sioux City, Steve grew up alongside his siblings, Genie, Cheryl, Chrystal, and Billy. From a young age, he carried a strong sense of duty and adventure, which led him to proudly serve in the United States Marine Corps for six years, with stations in Hawaii and Vietnam.
While in California, Steve met the love of his life, Carla Bauer. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, eventually settling in Sioux City to raise their family. He was a proud father to his five daughters: Katrina, Sandi, Jaime, Kaye, and Stephenie.
Steve had a passion for motorcycles and cherished the times spent with family and friends. He was a proud member of ABATE, the American Legion Post 64, and the Siouxland Detachment of the Marine Corps League #507. His dedication to his country, his community, and his family was evident in everything he did.
Steve’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy of strength, loyalty, and love will continue through his family and friends.
Steve is survived by his children Sandi (Mike) Headid, Jaime (Dan Bourassa) Bauer-Hanner, Kaye (Jimmy Ackerman) Hanner and Stephenie (Glen Moore) Hanner; grandchildren Nichole, Zackary, Michael, Alex, Cameron, Matthew, Coltyn, Brenden, Marcus, Morgan, Jadyn, Jesse, Ejanae, Janyiah, Asia; great grandchildren Payton, MacKenzie, Harley, Novalee, Octavia, Lilith Lu, Weston, and Baby boy Hanner; sisters Genie, Cheryl (Jim) and Chrystal (Mark); numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; many friends who were more like family.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Carla; his daughter Katrina, his parents and his stepfather Lee Torrez; his brother Billy; brothers-in-law and many more loved ones.
We love you, Dad. Semper Fi, Marine. You are deeply missed.
