Steven "Steve" Thomas Claussen, 53, of Sioux City, IA, passed away unexpectedly at a hospital in Des Moines, IA on September 28, 2025.  A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, October 5, 2025 at 3:00 p.m., with a visitation from 2-4:00 p.m. at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Steve was born on March 15, 1972 in Atlantic, Iowa, to James and Mary Claussen and grew up alongside his brother, Scott.

More than anything, Steve's greatest joy and purpose was found in his family. He shared a beautiful life with his wife, Karla, and together they raised three children, Tyler, Jacob, and Trinity. He was the kind of husband and father who never hesitated to put his family first, whether it was watching sports, planning an outdoor vacation, or simply spending time together at home. He made every moment count and left his children with the lasting example of what it means to be loving, dependable, and strong.

Steve also had a career he cared deeply about as a nurse manager in the ICU, where his compassion and calm leadership touched many lives. His work was simply an extension of who he was, a man who lived to care for others.

He lived life to the fullest, enjoying hunting, fishing, golfing, running, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was training for a marathon, a testament to his determination and perseverance. Family and friends will remember his easy laugh, his playful clumsiness, and his gift for reminding those he loved that, in his words, "It'll be fine."

Steve is survived by his wife, Karla; his children, Tyler (Belle), Jacob (Elexis Hamman), and Trinity; his parents, James and Mary Claussen; and his brother, Scott.
