Stephen G. Shatka, 82 of Sioux City, passed away at his home on Thursday, October 13, 2011.
Funeral services will be held 2 pm Saturday, October 15 at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the US Army.
Stephen Gordon Shatka was born on March 13, 1929 near South Sioux City, Nebraska, the son of Peter and Mildred (Van Houten) Shatka. He was raised in South Sioux City.
On August 12, 1950 he was united in marriage to June Janell Williams of Washta, Iowa. Stephen was a barber for most of his adult life, having owned and operated four barber shops throughout the years. He has also worked at the Zenith Corporation in Sioux City, in the Test Equipment Lab, for several years, and later returned to barbering until his retirement.
Stephen enjoyed bowling on leagues, and playing pool at the Senior Center. He had artistic talents and enjoyed working with wood and painting with acrylics.
Stephen is survived by his wife June; two sons, Stephen C. Shatka and his wife Linda of Sioux City, and Jeffrey Shatka of Reno, Nevada; four grandchildren, David Shatka and his wife Cathy of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Robert Shatka of Bellevue, Nebraska, Angela and her husband Joshua Pytynia of Michigan City, Indiana, and Jeremy Shatka and his wife Hayde of Sioux City; four great-grandchildren, Christian, Janelle, Finn and Jameson; his brother, George Provancha and his wife Carol of Huntsville, Alabama, and a sister, Florence and her husband Wayne Reynolds of Kennewick, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Joseph Hamer and Marlowe Provancha, and three sisters, Eleanor Acord, Margaret Todd and Mary Hendricksen.
Stephen had trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior.
