Obituary

Stephen D. Glorfield, aged 78, passed away on August 12, 2024, in Sioux City, Iowa

A memorial service will be held in his honor on Thursday, August 22nd, 2024, at 6:30 PM at Waterbury Funeral Home, located at 4125 Orleans Avenue, Sioux City, Iowa 51106.

Steve was born on September 8, 1945, in Sioux City, where he lived for most of his life.  Steve was known for his adventurous spirit and enjoyed many, diverse hobbies. From skydiving and bungee jumping to rebuilding, from the frame up, a ’62 Chevy Bel Air bubble top that he later showed across the country.  He was also an avid golfer and loved to play racquetball and softball.  Steve was known to throw a bowling ball here and there and was always up for a game of pool.

Steve served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force, with deployments in both Vietnam and Korea. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he joined the 185th Air National Guard unit in Sioux City, retiring in 2005.  His military career was marked by a dedication that mirrored his approach to life—full of vigor and resilience.

Steve was a 50-year member of the Masonic Landmark Lodge #103, where he served as Worshipful Master.  He was a proud Mason, following the footsteps of his father, Duane, and father-in-law, Raymond.

In later years, Steve and his wife of 58 years, Linda, split their time between Sioux City and Weslaco, Texas where they would spend their winters enjoying the warmer weather, beaches, and happy hour with their many friends.  Steve served as Social Club President of Siesta Village, the community where they lived.  He was very active in the daily comings and goings of Siesta Village – a place Steve truly considered a second home.

Surviving Steve is his beloved wife, Linda, their son, Tom and Tom’s wife, Steve’s daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, as well as Cody, Steve and Linda’s faithful yellow lab.  His extended family includes his many nieces and nephews.

Steve's quick wit and love for elaborate pranks will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He was a beacon of joy and laughter, always ready to lighten the mood with a joke or a clever trick.
