Sonja Sue Schmidt

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sonja "Sunnie" Schmidt, who left this world surrounded by the love of her family on May 5, 2026 at a local hospital. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 13 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Family and friends are invited to come celebrate her life and the love she gave so freely.

Born in Grand Island to Kathline Reynolds and James Schmidt, Sunnie was a strong, loving, and selfless woman who dedicated her life to her children and family. As a mother of five, she carried the weight of the world on her shoulders and somehow still found ways to make life feel warm, safe, and full of love. Her strength was unmatched, and the sacrifices she made for her children will never be forgotten.

She was the kind of woman who could make people laugh, comfort those who were hurting, and keep going even during life’s hardest moments. To her children, she was home. Her love was unconditional, fierce, and constant.

Sunnie leaves behind her loving children, Keith Rahman, Eli Rahman, Deron Rahman, Keisha Rahman, and Shanae Schmidt. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Isaiah Rahman, Trayden Ford, Aria Ford, and Maliyah Anderson, along with many family members and friends who will carry her memory forever.

Her memory lives on through her children, grandchildren, family, and everyone lucky enough to know her. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing her love and lessons will stay with us forever.

She is deeply loved, deeply missed, and will never be forgotten.
