Obituary
Shirley Ruth (Schwartz) Niebaum died on July 4, 2016 at her home in Sioux City, Iowa. A service of remembrance will be held at 10:30 am, on August 27, 2016 at Riverside Methodist Church in Sioux City. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Shirley was born in Winner, SD to Bill and Fern Schwartz on July 22, 1953. She was the firth of six children. She attended Winner Public School and graduated in 1971. After graduation, Shirley attended beauty school and graduated in 1972. Shirley married Don Vanneman in 1972, and to this union, William Joseph Vanneman was born in 1974.
While in Winner, Shirley worked as a home healthcare provider and she became very close to her clients. She divorced in 1979. After this divorce, she met Walt Niebaum and they were married on August 31, 1985. Together, the couple moved to Walt's hometown of Sioux City, where she resided until her death.
Shirley was an intelligent, articulate woman who loved her family dearly. She would come back to Winner for weeks at a time to help her mother, Fern; her sister, Coni; and to spend time with her nephew and niece, Jamie and Hayley. She was a loving and giving sister, mother, aunt, and wife. Shirley was extremely crafty and enjoyed making Christmas ornaments for the whole family. She was also an avid crossword puzzler and would do the Sunday puzzle in less than twelve minutes.
Very grateful to have shared in her life are her husband, Walt Niebaum of Sioux City; her son, Bill (Heather) Vanneman and their two sons, Michael and Matthew of Sioux Falls; her step-children, Doug (Jana) Niebaum and their son, Jake; Dawn (Kyle) Hamman and their daughters, Kylie and Kelsey; Kris (Steve) Mead; Bonnie (Jeff) Finken and their children, Casey and JJ, all residing in Sioux City; her siblings, Bill (Lorrie) Schwartz of Topeka, KS; Fred (Marty) Schwartz of St. Paul, MN; Fern (DeWayne) Truhe of Pilot Mountain, NC; Alice (Larry) Graham of Topeka, KS; and Coni (Jim) Halverson of Winner, SD; and a host of nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Fern Schwartz; her in laws, Dorothy and Lowell Vanneman and William and Dorothy Niebaum.
She will remain in our hearts forever!!
