IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley A.
Mulhall
April 22, 1942 – January 25, 2026
Shirley Anne (Carr) Mulhall, age 83, of Moville, Iowa, passed away peacefully, on January 25, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of strength, perseverance, and deep devotion to her family. There will be no services at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Shirley was born on April 22, 1942, in Queens, New York, to Edmund G. Carr and Marion A. (Whitney) Carr. When she was just a few months old, her family relocated to Worcester, Massachusetts, where she was raised. She attended Woodland Street School and South High School in Worcester.
Throughout her life, Shirley was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. She worked for several years as a meat packer and later spent many years as a house cleaner, a role she took pride in as she worked hard to provide for her family.
Shirley was married three times throughout her life. She married Gerald Spelman in 1959, Raymond Kirby Jr. in 1965, and Edward Mulhall in 1981. All three husbands preceded her in death. Following her marriage to Edward Mulhall, Shirley moved to Moville, Iowa, in 1982, where she made her home for over four decades.
Shirley’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her eight children: Valerie Corbin, Sean Mulhall, Debi Worley (Noah), Raymond Kirby III (Michelle), Tracy Platt, Dawn Bartel (Clyde), Timothy Spelman, and Paul Spelman. She is also lovingly remembered by her 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life. She is also survived by her two sisters: Emma B. Allner (Walter) of Moville, Iowa, and Sharon E. Barnett of North Sioux City, South Dakota.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Marion (Whitney) Carr; her husband, Edward Mulhall; her three brothers, Richard E. Carr, Roger G. Carr, and Gary R. Carr; her sister, Carol E. Olson; her brothers-in-law, Bruce G. Olson and Glenn R. Barnett; and her son-in-law, Michael Corbin.
Shirley will be remembered for her resilience, her devotion to her family, and the countless ways she showed up for those she loved. Her memory will live on in the many generations she leaves behind.
