Shirley I. Knapp, 87 of Sioux City, IA passed away Sunday, August 4, 2024, at a local care facility. Per Shirley's wishes there will be no services.

Shirley was born April 5, 1937, in Hazelton, North Dakota the daughter of Wallace and Helen (Kurtz) Malchert. She was united into marriage to Adolph “Dick” Knapp in November of 1956. Together they were blessed with four sons. In January of 1987 Adolph passed away.

Shirley worked as Certified Med Aid at the Indian Hills Care Center for 40 years. In her retirement years she managed the George Apartments. Along the way she met her partner Gary Ryan, they have been together since 1989.

She was a great wife, mother, sister and grandma. Shirley enjoyed camping, fishing, working on puzzles, playing solitaire, reading books and watching birds.

Shirley is survived by her special partner Gary Ryan, 4 sons, Brad (Nancy) Knapp, Steve Knapp, Russ (Laurie) Knapp, Rick (Mindy) Knapp, 6 grandkids, Christopher (Yettsy) Knapp, Joe (Lioht) Flores, Brandon (Abbie) Knapp, Cody (Jess) Knapp, Camden Knapp, Travis Knapp, Angela (Christian) Kent, 2 great grandchildren, Kyleigh Knapp, Hadley Knapp, sister, Carol (LeRoy) Humann, sister-in-law, Marlene Malchert, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Adolph “Dick”, brother, Virgil “Skip” Malchert, sister, Millicent “Mille” Boyd, and two brothers-in-law, Gary Boyd, Sr. and Ivan Boyd.
