Shirley Godfredson, 91 of Salix, died Thursday, August 18, 2016 at a local hospital in Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.
Service will be held 10:00am Monday, August 22, 2016 at the Shephard of Peace Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff, with Rev.Tim Schiller officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, August 21, 2016 from 4pm-8pm with family present from 6-8 and prayer service at 7pm at the Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff, 400 4th Street.
Shirley Yvonne (Dee) Godfredson was born December 10, 1924 in Gloucester, England the daughter of Frank and Ada (Wakefield) Dee. During WWII at a USO dance in Cheltenham, England she met her future husband, Chester, serving in the US Army. Traveling to America in 1947 they were united in marriage on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947 in Sergeant Bluff. The couple farmed in Sergeant Bluff and later in Salix. On October 10, 1955, Shirley became a naturalized citizen.
Shirley was a member of the Shephard of Peace Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff.
She is survived by her two sons Roger (Lucinda) of Ponca, NE., Derek of Salix, a daughter Lori (Richard) of Leawood, KS., five grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren, one brother Graham (Delaryse) of Gloucester, England, one sister-in-law Lorraine Godsey of Sloan, IA.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Chester in 1997.
