Shirley A. Brandt, 80, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at a local hospital. Services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Private family burial at McCook Lake Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Shirley was born on May 3, 1937 in Brookings, SD, daughter of John and Alma (Witt) Harms. She graduated from LeMars Central High School. Shirley married Loren Stinehart in August of 1956. To this union, three children were born: Julie, Linda, and Tom. Shirley and Loren later divorced.
Shirley worked as a bookkeeper for many years in numerous businesses throughout the Siouxland area. She was a member of Good News Baptist Church. Shirley loved to cook, read, play piano, and had a great love for travel. In addition to traveling to many parts of the world, Shirley also traveled and lived for several years with her daughter, Julie and her husband, Ahmed while they were posted in Minsk, Belarus, and the Dominican Republic.
Survivors include her children, Julie (Ahmed Mokrani) Stinehart of North Sioux City and Tom Stinehart of Sioux City; brother, Douglas (Tina) Harms of Cheyenne, WY; grandson, Anthony Balstad of Sioux City, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Linda; sister, Glennes; and brothers, Marlin and Glenn.
