Obituary

Shelly A. Funk, 65 of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 9, 2018 11:00 am at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 3713 Green Ave, Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Shelly was born to Arlo and Dorthy (Garner) Johnson in Ida Grove, Ia. After growing up in Ida Grove and graduating HS she moved to Sioux City to attend WIT Western Iowa Tech for Architectural Drafting and Interior Design. Sioux City is where she met Harold Funk where they moved to Colorado and were married January 1, 1976. In Colorado, they raised two children Marilee and Jason. At this time she opened a daycare and cared for over 27 children, through the years and most of which were under the age of 2. She had such a love for children and was especially fond of babies. Always making time to sing the ABC’s and nursery rhymes to any of the baby’s who would listen. Also, this is the time when she has her first contact with Jehovah’s Witnesses and had the opportunity to attend the Memorial of Christ’s Death.

Many years and many moves later she came into contact again with Jehovah’s Witnesses and started to study the Bible and on April 4, 1992 she dedicated her life to Jehovah and was baptized. She spent many years studying the Scriptures and was eager to tell others of the things she was learning. Due to health reasons she was limited. She enjoyed writing letters to share the things she was learning, even writing to prisoners or ones who just lost a love ones in death to share with them the promises held out in the Scriptures in hopes it would bring them comfort.

Upon learning of her parents needs, they decided it was in their best interest to move to Iowa to care for them. So in 1999 they packed up leaving familiarity, family and friends and moved to Iowa. She was ALWAYS putting other people’s needs ahead of her own needs when it was not easy for her. Weather she was baking cookies for the local Fire and Police Department, making baby blankets and hats for the preemies at the Hospitals, even baking goodies for the mechanics who fixed her car, or the ladies at the checkout stand at the grocery store or taking meals to her neighbors whom she loved and adored. She was selfless. She also had such crazy sense of humor. This was here way of trying to cheer people up knowing how hard people’s lives were these days. She was a skilled seamstress, and in 2005 she opened Knotted Threads, where she was always bust making or altering something for someone. This was something that brought her happiness, again, being able to help others.

Shelly is survived by her husband Harold Funk, daughter Marilee (Anthony) Bevilacqua of  Tahlequah, Ok, son Jason Funk of Layton, Ut, and grandchildren Jaeden, Terrapin, Cody Bevilacqua, Lauren Terrapin, Laney Terrapin all of Tahlequah, Ok, Braxton Funk of Layton, Ut, and Daisy Bevilacqua of Tahlequah, Ok, as well as a host of Dear Beloved Family and Friends.

She proceeded in death by her parents and brother Terry Johnson.
