Selma G. Faith, 97, a lifelong resident of Sioux City, passed away Monday, January 23, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family whom she loved about all other worldly things.

Services will be 11:00 am Friday at Trimble United Methodist Church with Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 5-8 pm at the church. A reception will immediately following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Selma was born on October 5, 1914 in Sioux City, Iowa to parents George and Sina (Tangstad) Cornelius. On March 10, 1935, she eloped with her sweetheart Thomas Edison Faith in Vermilion, SD. They returned to Sioux City, settled in, and had seven children. Tom died in 1960 leaving her a widow with five children still at home, most certainly a difficult and frightening situation. However, she was tough and determined and did what was necessary to raise her family. She first raised her own children and then when others would have rested she took on raising grandchildren, Tom and Mike Stanfield. She was our family’s beloved and cherished matriarch, the glue that held us all together, and the gathering point for family events. Her family was her life. She offered us unconditional love, and saw only the best in every one of us. She was always there for us in both good and difficult times. We will miss her terribly, but we take great comfort in knowing there must be special rewards in paradise for loving and caring mothers like her.

She is survived by her son James and his wife Barbara Faith of Selah, WA, son Jack and his wife Jeanne Faith of Turin, IA, daughter Cheryl Strong of South Sioux City, NE, daughter Judy and her husband John Rivers of Jackson, NE, her grandson Tom Stanfield of Sioux City, whom she raised as her own, her sister-in-laws Viola Brucker of Eden Prairie, MN, and Donna Bern of Sioux City, 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, plus many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tom, her parents, her brother Clarence Cornelius, sister Anna Hanson, children Thomas Faith, Gary Faith, and Janice Noecker, grandchild Mike Stanfield, and great grandchild Bradley Stanfield.

A special thanks to Hospice for their professional and caring assistance.
