Sarah May was born on Christmas Day, 1963, and passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025, at her home. She was a miracle and lived an extraordinary life. Christmas was Sarah's favorite holiday and birthday. Please do not send flowers or gifts, but instead, if so inclined, donate to a favorite charity in her name that also celebrates Christmas or to the Siouxland Humane Society.

Sarah was born in Eau Claire, WI, and moved to Cortland, NY, Fairport, NY, and Sioux Falls, SD.  Sarah graduated from the South Dakota School for the Deaf in Sioux Falls and worked as a dishwasher for decades at a variety of restaurants throughout Sioux Falls, her favorite place being the University of Sioux Falls. She moved with family to Pittsburgh in 2016, continued her career at Giant Eagle and Piada Italian Street Food, and then moved with family to Sioux City in 2021 and cherished her job in the cafeteria at Unity Point Hospital.

Sarah cherished her family, her friends, co-workers and her independence. She loved attending concerts and events that involved her musical family, going to the fair, water aerobics at the Y, working on several art projects and visiting daily with the Deaf community. She was proud of her ability to speak her mind and live independently. She had several disabilities that did not slow her down.

Sarah will be dearly missed by her sisters Laura and Eleanor, brothers Daniel and Benjamin and their families. Sarah deeply loved her 19 nieces and nephews, 11 grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and her best friend Dana Richter. The family would like to thank Sarah's brother-in-law, Dan Patterson, for enhancing her quality of life, the Rock Valley Physical Therapy staff, Drs. DeMaass, Daffer, Rettedal, Hille and Staniker for their excellent care of Sarah.

Sarah loved her parents Walter and Mary Eleanor, her brothers David and Jonathan, and niece Anika who passed before her.
