Obituary

Lynette Sandra "Sandy" Thompson, 72, of Sloan, IA, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Prairie Estates in Elk Point, SD.

Services will be held 10:30 am, Monday, November 27, 2017 at Community Church of Christ in Sloan, IA. Burial will be at Eastview Cemetery in Allen, Nebraska. A visitation will be held from 5-8 with a prayer service at 7:00 pm, Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Sandy's name to June E. Nylen Cancer Center.

Sandy was born on April 30, 1945 in Laurel, Nebraska, the daughter of Earl and Rachel (Isom) McCaw. She attended Allen, NE high school. Sandy married Richard Heaton on March 1, 1964, and they later divorced. She married Patrick Thompson on November 17, 1979, Pat passed away in 2012.

Sandy obtained her GED before attending Beauty School. She graduated from Beauty School in 1987 and began working at East End Beauty Shop in Sioux City. She then opened her own salon, Sandy's Shear Country, in Sloan, IA. Sandy provided in home day care until retirement in 2013. Family was the most important part of her life. She was known as "Grandma Sandy" to all of her daycare kids, and even "Mom" to many others throughout the years. Sandy attended as many sporting events for her children and grandchildren as she could. She enjoyed going camping, bowling, fishing, and painting ceramics, cooking, and baking.

Sandy was a member of Community Church of Christ in Sloan and the Sloan Cafe Coffee Club.

Survivors include her children, Todd (Cindy) Heaton of Elk Point, Timothy (Loretta) Heaton of Jefferson, Laura (Ron) Klein of Pender, Troy (Nicole) Heaton of Hampstead, NC, Tara (Mike) Moreland of Jefferson, and James (Mindy) Thompson of Sloan; twenty grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren with one on the way; sister, Earlyne Murray of Wayne, NE; brother in law, Kerry Hanson of Sergeant Bluff; and son in law, Stan Vomacka of Leigh, NE.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pat; sister, LeeJean Hanson; brother in law, Harold Murray; son in law, Gene Mackling; and stepdaughter, Kathy Vomacka.
