Sandra Kay Berger, 77, of Newcastle, Nebraska passed away peacefully after a brief illness Saturday May 25, 2024, at Mercy One Hospital, Sioux City in the presence of loved ones. A funeral to honor Sandy will be at 11 am on Monday, June 10th at the Congregational Church, Newcastle, Ne. with a luncheon to follow. Her eternal resting place will be in the Obert Cemetery with a private family burial. Waterbury Funeral Service is assisting with arrangements. May all who mourn the death of Sandra K. Berger find comfort in the faith through the grace of our loving heavenly Father. Memorials will be designated to the Congregational Church.
Sandy was the first-born child to Lois and Axel Anderson on January 10, 1947. She grew up on a farm near Obert. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Wynot and graduated from Obert High School in 1965. Her faith has been a constant light source through her life holding many positions at the Congregational Church.
Sandy had three children in her first marriage, Thomas, Todd and Breana. She married John Berger on June 10, 2003, in Reno. They had a wonderful life together. She loved her family, spending time with friends, attending reunions, reading books and tending to her outdoor flowers. She was a meticulous cleaner and enjoyed watching game shows and Saturday Night Live. She enjoyed a plethora of jobs throughout her life, her most recent job as a custodian for The Bank of Dixon County in Newcastle and never moved far to stay close to her roots.
Sandy is survived by her loving husband, John Berger of Newcastle, children; Tommy (Jill) Brennan of Lincoln, Todd (Tina) Brennan, Newcastle, Breana Marlett of West Point, Kristine (Jim) Pettit, Kansas City and Adam John Berger (Tierney), Kansas City. Grandchildren: Jessica Brennan, Thomas Brennan, Alison (Dalton) Tremayne, Austin Brennan, Ava Brennan, Alexus Hans, James Tucker Marlett, Penelope Leonard, Andrew Pettit, Mikayla Fussel, Tarik Berger and Breccen Berger. She was a proud sister to Andrew (Roz) Anderson Salina, KS and Randall (Gloria) Anderson, Wynot and sisters-in-law, Maryann Schieve, Elaine Harms, Ellen Schmidt and Joyce Anderson.
She is preceded in death by her parents and in-laws.
