Jo Ann Peterman, age 77, of Sioux City former longtime Washta resident passed away Thursday June 14, 2012 at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be held on Monday June 18, 2012 at 11:00am Washta United Methodist Church with Pastor Carolyn Hollar officiating. Private inurnment will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta. Visitation with the family present will be held Sunday from 6-8pm at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff. Jo Ann was born on March 11, 1935 at Sioux Rapids, Iowa the daughter of Mack and Leeta (Fairchild) Van Vickle. In March of 1941 the family moved to a farm north of Washta and she attended Washta Consolidated Schools graduating in 1952. After her graduation she began working for Simonsen Industries Inc. in Quimby, Iowa. Jo Ann worked there until retiring in 2001.
She met the love of her life Donald Peterman while working and they were united in marriage on May 9, 1954, this union was blessed with three children Steven, Pamela, and Dawn.
Jo Ann was a member of the Washta United Methodist Church, and she also was a member of the UMW. She enjoyed playing cards, and she and Don belonged to a 500 card club for many years.
Following Don’s passing, Jo Ann moved to Sioux City in 2002, to be closer to her family. In Sioux City she met many new friends and joined card clubs. She loved the mountains and natural beauty of the West her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed a special bond with the special needs child that Dawn and David adopted. She especially enjoyed being a great-grandmother to Logan, son of Cory and Nicole Wilson.
Jo Ann will be missed by her family which includes her children, Steve (Suzanne) Peterman of Elk Point, S.D.; Pam Potts (Dan) of Omaha, NE.; and Dawn Pratt (Dave) of Sioux City. She is also survived by grandchildren: Nicole Wilson (Cory), Rachel Parish (Keith), Lexie, Hunter, and Reaghan Pratt, and her great-grandson Logan Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, sister Ethel Tiesler, and two brothers Harold and Mordean Van Vickle.
