Ruth M. (Bowers) Malone, 84, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Touchstone living Center.
Services will be held 10 am Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Kingsley, with Rev. Roger Kurtenbach officiating. Burial will be in the Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation 4-8 pm Tuesday, with a 7 pm Prayer Service at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.
Ruth was born March 18, 1927, in Ida Grove, Iowa, daughter of Henry and Ida Marie (Hesse) Kollbaum, Sr.
She attended Country School in Crawford County, IA and lived most her life in the Anthon, Iowa area. She married Verle A. Bowers on March 5th, 1946. They farmed near Anthon until 1953, when they moved to Climbing Hill and operated a cafe there for three years. The Bowers lived in Anthon for a about nine years until they moved to Mapleton, IA in 1966 and to Hornick in 1971. After Verle passed away on May 25th, 1975, she moved to Lyons, Nebraska where she met and married William Malone. After William passed away, she met a good friend Dale Bring, who later passed away. In 2009, she moved to Iowa to be closer to her family.
Ruth enjoyed tending her garden and flower beds, cooking, camping, and fishing. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Her other interests were watching television and doing word-search puzzles.
Survivors include her son Dennis Bowers and his wife Arleen of Sioux City, daughter Marcia Nelson and her special friend Larry Rowe of Stilwell, Oklahoma, brothers Henry Kollbaum, Jr. and his wife Lila of Moville, and Gene Kollbaum and his wife Linda of Bronson, sisters Delores Diamond and her husband Ralph of Correctionville, Leona Schmidt and her husband Norman of Danbery, Roberta Houlsworth of Anthon, and LaJune Gray and her husband Tom of Sioux City, seven grandchildren Sue, Michele, Michael, Dale, Belinda, Kerry, and Brandi, 20 great grandchildren, and many great-great grandchildren. As well the Bring Family.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Verle A. Bowers, second husband William Malone, and her companion Dale Bring, daughter Karen K. Hansen, sister Darlene Zimmerman and her husband Ronald Zimmerman, brother-in-law Larry Houlsworth, and granddaughter Wendy (Gehrke) Fischlein.
