Ruth LaVaughn Jensen, 89 of Vermillion, South Dakota, formerly of Bronson, Iowa died Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Sanford Vermillion Hospital in Vermillion, South Dakota surrounded by her loving family.

Services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton. Burial will be at the Banner Township Cemetery near Lawton. Visitation 5-8 pm Monday with the family present at the church, with a Prayer Service at 7 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Ruth was born on February 13, 1927 in Lead, South Dakota, the daughter of Vaughn and Leah (White) Greek. Ruth graduated from St. Charles High School in St. Charles, South Dakota in 1945.

On April 3, 1948, Ruth was united in marriage to Robert E. Jensen in South Sioux City. They worked at Cudahey's Packing Plant until March of 1950, when they moved to their farm near Bronson. She and Robert farmed until their retirement. She lived in Bronson until 2013 when she moved to Vermillion. For the past year, she was blessed with having her sister-in law Hazel come live with her.

Ruth was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. Ruth will be remembered for rocking her grandchildren, teaching them how to play cards and for her famous apple pies. Her live centered around her family making each and every one of them feel loved and special. She was always there for anyone in need, and made them also feel they were part of her family.

Ruth is survived by; 1 son, Pete Jensen and his wife Jann of Burbank, SD; 5 daughters, Barbara and her husband Larry Hinrichs of Lawton, Joyce and her husband John Evenson of McCook Lake, SD, Julie and her husband Dan Jay of Moulton, IA, Cathy Ries of Salem, SD and Carol and her husband Ron Finnegan of Newcastle, NE; 1 sister-in law, Hazel Ritter of Vermillion, SD; 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert in 2011, her son-in law, Rich Ries and 1 grand daughter, Lara Hinrichs.
