Ronald D. Towne, 63 of Salix, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be held 7 pm Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Salix with Rev. Catie Newman officiating, and with Military Rites provided by the US Army. Visitation with the family present will start at 6:30 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.
Ronald Dale Towne was born on July 17, 1948 in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Leroy and Maurine (Johnson) Towne. He graduated in 1967 from the Mapleton High School. Ron served in the Army as a mechanic.
On May 8, 1971 Ron was united in marriage to Lynn Gilligan in Sioux City. They lived in South Sioux City for eight years before moving to Salix. Ron worked at State Steel for 40 years, and had just retired in July of 2010.
Ron enjoyed hunting, camping and cutting wood. He was a collector of many things. Ron attended the United Methodist Church in Salix.
Ron is survived by his wife Lynn; two daughters, Tammy and her husband Kirk Metcalf and Jennifer and her husband Donavan Thompson; five grandchildren, Beau and Paige Metcalf and Devin, Seth, Peyton Thompson; and three brothers, Bub Towne of Mapleton, Larry Towne of Washta and Gaylen Towne of South Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
