Ronald "Ron" Joseph Lux, 64, of Sloan, IA. passed away Friday, January 2, 2026 at a local hospital. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, January 9, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix. Visitation will be Thursday, January 8 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.
Ronald J. “Ron” Lux, was born on October 22, 1961 in Sioux City, Iowa to Darrell and Carole (Johnson) Lux, and was raised in Salix, Iowa. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Salix, and graduated from Westwood High School, in Sloan, Iowa.
Ron was married to Sharon Harrington in 1983 and was the proud father of Joshua, Zachary, Lacy, and Christina. Throughout his life he worked tirelessly to provide for his family, holding positions at IBP, MCI, Gateway, Gelita, and later as an owner-operator Truck Driver. His jobs kept him away from his family for long periods of time. He was always regretful that he had to miss many activities with his family because he was working. He loved his family and worked hard to provide for them.
In 2005 he began a new chapter in his life moving to Sloan, Iowa to a farm. Ron and Patti spent 21 years together working on the house that belonged to the Nevin/Swanson family. He spent his last days enjoying the farm life.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl and Thelma Johnson and his grandfather, Andrew. Ron remembered going to his grandmother Alta Lux’s house before school, and enjoying orange juice with her before kindergarten.
Although his son, Joshua preceded him in death in 1983, His surviving children provided him with 12 grandchildren. Ron's son Zach Lux and his wife Michelle Lux had 5 daughters, Chelsea, Alyssa (who also preceded him in death), Brianna, Elizabeth, and Faith. He was so proud to welcome his first great grandchild, Isaiah, in 2025 from Chelsea. His daughter Lacy is married to Matthew Dezsi and had gave Ron 4 grandchildren; Connor Sedivy, Abigail Sedivy, Landon Dezsi and Caroline Dezsi. Ron’s youngest daughter, Christina and her husband Tim Pech gave Ron three more grandsons, Bentley, Hunter and Owen.
Ron loved his family. He was devastated when his dad, Darrell, his mom, Carole, and his baby brother Rodney had left this world. He always said his mom was his best friend.
Ron enjoyed camping, fishing, and gardening. He loved outdoor activities and loved watering his garden. He and his dad, Darrell, had a friendly rivalry about who would plant potatoes first, and who would produce the most. He also loved roses as he would prune, trim, and take care of his precious roses almost every day during the summer.
In later years, Ron loved to go to the warm desert in the winter. Ron and Patti would enjoy traveling to see Patti's family in Arizona, MaryLou Nevin, and her sister and brother- in- law Joni and Jeff Wing. Ron had a special relationship with MaryLou and considered her as his second mom.
His medical battle began in 2022 when he had to have a triple bypass on his heart. He had surgery after surgery and he fought a brave battle each time, coming out the victor. In 2025 he was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. Again, he VERY bravely fought with all his might. He went through chemo and radiation for the first three rounds. On Christmas Eve day, he had his last round of radiation and was able to “Ring the Bell.” He became very ill the day after, with terrible side effects. Going to the ER at St. Luke’s was definitely not his favorite thing to do. But as sick as he was, he had no choice. Ron’s fight ended at St. Lukes Hospital, surrounded by his family on January 2, 2026.
Ron is survived by his brothers, Steve Lux and Bob (Carrie) Lux, sisters, Debbie (Shawn) Jensen, and Theresa (Cory) Nordstrom, first wife, Sharon Lux, son, Zachary (Michelle) Lux, daughters, Lacy (Matthew) Dezsi, Christina (Tim) Pech, grandchildren; Chelsea, Brianna, Connor, Abigail, Elizabeth, Faith, Landon, Bentley, Hunter, Owen and Caroline, one great-grandchild Isaiah. He is also survived by Patti, MaryLou Nevin; and Joni and Jeff Wing of Arizona.
Ron was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, Darrell and Carole Lux, brother, Rodney Lux, son, Joshua Lux, and a granddaughter, Alyssa Lux.
He will be missed dearly. He has left an empty whole in our hearts. God speed Ronald.
