Ronald Eugene Lenz, 83, of Sergeant Bluff, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. A visitation with family present will begin one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given, in Ronald's name, to the Sergeant Bluff Fire and Rescue.

Ron was born on September 29, 1934 in Sioux City, the son of Walter and Lucille (Bennett) Lenz. He attended East High School. Ron enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1956. Ron married Diane (Dandurand)  Lenz on October 3, 1981.

Ron was a career firefighter, employed at the old Station 5 Fire House, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Sergeant Bluff American Legion Post #662 and had an integral part in building the veterans memorial in town. Ron had been a past president of the local AFA Chapter.

He loved the fall weather and being outdoors; fishing, hunting, woodcarving, and shooting his guns (target practice). Ron was very interested in genealogy and spent many hours researching family history. Family was the most important aspect of his life, especially spending time with his grandchildren.  He was a faithful and devoted member of Morningside Lutheran Church.

Survivors include wife, Diane; children, Ronald (Gena) Lenz, Daniel (Lonna) Lenz, Lisa (Ernie) Dorado, Randy (Danelle) Lenz, and Amy (Tim) Herbst; twenty grandchildren, April, Donnie, Melissa, Michael, Jillian, Cody, Olyvia, Mackenzie, Alicia, Jordan, Laurel, Haley, Erica, Devlon, Clarissa, Christian, Shelby Rae, Tyler, Cody, and Jesse; twelve great grandchildren; and sister, Pat (Jim) Duff.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Walter and Gerald; and an infant sister.
