Ronald Blades, 77, of Sioux City, IA, passed away December 1, 2023, at a local hospital. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 6th at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery immediately following the service.
Ronald was born on May 23, 1946, in Oakland, CA to Richard and Jennie (Carlson) Blades. He graduated from East High School and went on to attend WIT Community College. He was united in marriage to Donna Sorensen on June 4, 1966, in Sioux City, IA and shared 57 ½ years of marriage. Ronald worked at Mid-American for 41 ½ years. It was there that he made lifelong friends and would visit Sooz’s Saloon daily for a beer (Schlitz being his favorite). He enjoyed camping in his RV at many campgrounds with Lake View being his favorite. He cherished his beloved numerous dogs. He was an avid bowler and loved socializing with many friends and family members. He was a union member for MidAmerican Energy, a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and a member of the Sioux City Bowling Association for 7 years. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Donna Blades; children: Roxanne (Don) Meisner, Robert (Angie) Blades, Roger (Jamie) Blades; grandchildren: Rachel (Hunter) Hovde, Alexander Meisner, Kaley Macklem, Rylee Blades, Heather (Dillon) Hunwardsen, and Parker Sik; great-grandchildren: Rowen and Mason Hovde, Deliah, Henley, Decorah, and Hartley Hunwardsen; sister, Janet (Michael) Kelly; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws: LaVerle “Ted” and LaVonne Sorensen; infant daughter, Robin; and a nephew, Richard Kelly.
