Roger L. Martin, 82 of Hornick, Iowa died Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Bickford Senior Living in Sioux City.
Services will be held 11:00am Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Avenue, with Rev. David Schoop officiating. Burial will be in West Fork Township Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Smithland American Legion Post 666. Visitation Friday 4-8 pm at the funeral home, with the family present 6-8 pm and a Prayer Service at 7 pm.
Roger Leroy Martin was born on December 10, 1933 in Kingsley, Iowa, the son of J.E. and Freda (Frazen) Martin. He graduated in 1952 from the Hinton High School, and enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean War. He rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Roger was united in marriage to Georgia Ann Saunders on October 25, 1956 at the First Lutheran Church in Kingsley. This year would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. During 1963, Roger and Georgia purchased a farm near Hornick where they made their home.
Roger enjoyed farming, watching westerns, exotic animals and horseback riding. For the past 25 years, Roger and Georgia wintered in Texas.
Roger was a former member of the Woodbury County Conservation Board, serving 7 years, during which he helped with the formation of the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center. He was a member of the Smithland American Legion Post 666, the VFW Post 1973 and the Farm Bureau.
Roger is survived by his wife Georgia, two sons, Bradley (Barbara) Martin of Bellevue, Nebraska and Brett (Mellodee) Martin of Diamond Head, Mississippi; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Deloris Smid.
