Robert J. Salmon, 58, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at his residence. Celebration of life will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service time with family present at the funeral home.
Bob was born on April 30, 1958 in Kansas City to William and Dorothy (Morris) Salmon. He attended Kansas City schools before moving to Sioux City with his father in 1973 and graduating from Heelan High School in 1977. After high school, Bob joined the U.S. Army where he served for 20 plus years before being honorably discharged. Notable assignments included serving in Panama for 2 years and Korea for a year. After military service, Bob was self-employed as a contract painter until his health required him to retire.
Bob is known for his sense of humor and generosity, as well as for his love of animals and family. His favorite pastimes were listening to music and watching the Kansas City Royals with his brother, Dan. Bob was also an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Survivors include his sister, Debra Wood of Seattle; brother, Dan (Sherri) Salmon of Sioux City; nephew, Eric Bruns and his children Davin and Eric Bruns Jr of Seattle; nieces Joey Salmon of Sioux City and Jennifer Myers and her friend Tony Feauto and her children, Tony and Alex Myers of Sioux City.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Bill Wood.
