Robert L. “Larry” Neal, 75 of North Sioux City, South Dakota passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023, at hospital in Texas. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Dakota City United Methodist Church. Private family burial will be held at a later date in Dakota City Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the United States Army. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.
Larry was born July 27, 1947, in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Robert and Neva (Butler) Neal. He lived in Dakota City, Nebraska and attended Dakota City elementary school before going to South Sioux City Schools. Larry moved to Syracuse, New York and attended Mechanic school right out of high school. He was drafted into the Army in 1967 and was sent to Vietnam serving as a Green Beret and receiving a Purple Heart and an honorable discharge in 1969.
Larry married Judy Barker and, in this union, they had three sons: Dennis, Rob, and Mark.
He married Teresa Billingsley in 1999 at the Dakota City Methodist Church. Together they made their home in North Sioux City, South Dakota. For five years Larry and his brother Randy had Neal Brothers Construction, where they did block and cement work. Larry worked at IBP in the maintenance department for over 30 years till he retired. In Larry's retirement years he loved to fish and enjoyed traveling with his wife Teresa, they went to 43 different states in their camper. For the last 10 years they mostly stayed in Texas making many friends. Larry always loved to work on cars as did his dad and brothers. In his early years he was in Corky Zastrow’s pit crew at a racetrack in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Later he was the leader of the pit crew for his sons as they raced at the Interstate Speedway and Park Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson, South Dakota.
Larry is survived by his wife of 23years Teresa, three sons, Dennis Neal, Rob Neal and Mark Neal, one stepson, Eric Hass, one stepdaughter, Samantha Thompson, three brothers, Randy (Carol Frank) Neal, Ron (Dawn Hutchins) Neal, Ray (Crystal Roost) Neal, four sisters, Sherry Munhofen, Shelly Anderson, Lora (Pat) Conley, Leesa (Dave) Parker, 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and 19 nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Linda and her husband Larry Kleve, brother-in-law, John Munhofen and two nephews, David Parker and Chad Neal.
In lieu of flower the family would like donations to be made to Minneapolis Fisher House or the United Methodist Church building fund. Envelopes will be at the service.
