Obituary

Robert L. "Bob" Curry, 83, of Sioux City, passed away in his home on March 5, 2016, surrounded by his family. Services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Visitation will be held 4-8 with family present from 6-8 and a Masonic Service at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.

Bob was born on June 5, 1932 to Leland & Tracy (DeJong) Curry of South Sioux City, NE. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1950. Bob joined the United States Navy on Nov 17, 1950. He served on the USS Princeton with honor, throughout the Korean War, as a Napalm Ordnanceman. During his time aboard ship, the motion picture "Men of the Fighting Lady" was filmed, in which he played a stand-in role.

In 1954, Bob returned to South Sioux City & began taking classes at Wayne State College where he met Patty Morris. They married in 1955 & moved to Sioux City. He began his long career for John Hancock Insurance Company in 1957, retiring after an injury in 1985.

Bob was raised to a Master Mason on April 26, 1974 at the Morningside Lodge #615. Bob completed his 32nd degree at the Scottish Rite. He went on to become a Noble at the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple in Sioux City. He volunteered as a Hospital Dad for children that needed transported to the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Minneapolis, MN. His legacy is carried on by his son & grandson.

Bob enjoyed all sports from local games to traveling to watch the Chicago Bulls & Detroit Lions. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage, going to auctions & most of all, helping others. His infectious laugh & caring nature will be missed by all those that loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Patty (Rosie) Curry; his three daughters: Penny Jasman (Arnie), Barb Parks (Steve), Laurie Welch (Doug); his one son & best friend: Mark Curry (Kerrie); his grandchildren: Lisa, Arnie Jr, Tricia, David, Brandon, Lacey, Erin, Tony, Alex & Catherine; his great grandchildren: Francesca, Isaiah, Bailey, Elly, Landry, Parker, Abby & Harper; His brothers: Tom Curry (Dixie) of Fairbury, NE, Jim Curry & Roger Curry; Sisters: Clara Detrick of Rialto, CA, Ruth Cechian of Omaha, NE, Alice Erickson (Eldon) of Minnesota, Donna Curry & Lorna Curry; Brother-in-law: John Graser; Sister-in-law: Charlotte Curry; Life long friend & Brother Mason: Phil Severson; And many nieces & nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents: Leland & Tracy Curry; Step-mother: Bonnie Curry; Sisters: Eva Wiggs, Edith Graser, Gloria Curry & Bonnie Lea Curry; Brother: Donald (Butch) Curry; Brother-in-laws: Donald Detrick, Alvin Wiggs & Elmer Cechin; Granddaughter: Alicia Parks; Great grandson: Jordan Peterson.
