Robert P. Cherkas, 83, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Matney's Colonial Manor in South Sioux City, Nebraska.
Services will be held 10:30 am on Friday, April 24, 2014 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. A visitation will be held from 4-7 on Thursday Evening at the funeral home. Burial will be at Graceland Park Cemetery following the service.
Robert was born on October 24, 1931, Sioux City, IA the son of Anthony and Emma (Reback) Cherkas. He went to East High School graduating in 1950. Robert served in the Army Reserve from 1950-1952.
He married LaVonne LaFave in 1955 in New Jersey. They moved to Long Beach, CA where they started their family of five children. Robert was self employed, owned, and operated Berkin Exhaust Cleaning. In 1969, Robert and LaVonne moved to their hometown of Sioux City, IA, where they raised their family until parting ways in 1979. Robert then married Barbara Jennings in 1981, they later separate in life.
Robert’s passions was fishing, hunting, and trapping with his family throughout his life and up until his later years. He was lifetime member of the National Trappers Association.
He is survived by two sons; Anthony “Tony” (Amy), Robert Jr. “Bob” (Kelly) both of Sioux City,IA, three daughters; Rose (Gary) Cooksey, of Montpelier, OH, Christine Pratt of Dension, IA, Laurie (Doug) Larsen of Westmont IL.; one brother; Ronnie (Nancy) of Ankeny, IA.; 19 grandchildren and 23 great -grandchildren.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Emma Cherkas, one sister Betty Bornholtz, and one brother Richard “Dick” Cherkas.
