Obituary

Robert Ray Campbell, Jr. passed away on April 30, 2025, at the age of 67 after a courageous battle with ALS. Preferring to be called Bob, he was born on July 6th, 1957. There will be a gathering for friends and family at the Sioux City Railroad Museum in his memory at a later date, a place that was close to the hearts of Bob and his family.

Bob was one of the kindest people you could ever meet and lent a helping hand to anyone who would need it. He was a hard-working laborer for his entire life and remained so even after retirement. He loved doing yard work, taking on various construction projects around the house and neighborhood, watching NASCAR and wrestling with his kids on TV, and listening to Elvis Presley.

Survivors left to cherish his memory include his sister Sharon Boyle and her family; his wife Julie Campbell and their four children, Michael, Adam, Nichole, and Kaylie; his daughter-in-law Shelby and grand-daughter Valery; his brothers-in-law Larry Jr. and John and his family; his close friend Eric Schoonover, who he considered a brother; as well as a list of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends that is far too long to list here.

He was preceded in death by his mother Marie, his sisters Mary-Katherine, Linda, Patti, and Jean-Marie, his father-in-law Larry Obermeyer, and his mother-in-law Donna Obermeyer.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ashar Luqman from Renal Associates, Dr. Scott Vincent and Dr. Jose Fernandes from the University of Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Sandeep Gupta from Unity Point; as well as the various nurses, aids, therapists, and advocates that worked with Bob from Westwood Specialty Care, Mercy One Siouxland Home Care and Medical Equipment, St. Croix Hospice, and Sioux City Fire Rescue for their help and guidance to make Bob’s last days on Earth comfortable. May he finally rest in peace.
